Hi, It’s Kathy with a K.
Just wanted to let you know about this charity that I am really interested in. Though there are many charity near and dear to my heart, as we have family members who have been diagnosed with some diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes and MS. Fabulous causes and well worth sending a donation to ensure studies are continued and cures are found.
Sometimes I want to see some results quicker. See that my money is making changes effective immediately. One such charity that I really like, because I think of the immediateness of the benefit in donating to, is Nothing But Nets. This is a United Nations campaign to help stop the spread of Malaria around the world especially in third world countries. Malaria is the leading killer of children. In fact, there are 10 new cases of malaria every second. Every 60 seconds, a child in Africa dies from a malaria infection. Malaria is spread by the dreaded mosquito, something we Winnipegger’s know only too well, though our mosquitoes are only spreading aggravation.
While malaria remains one of the deadliest diseases on the African continent, infections can be prevented either by spraying insecticides indoors or by sleeping under long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets. Bed nets work by creating a protective barrier against deadly-malaria carrying mosquitoes that bite at night. A family of four can sleep under an insecticide-treated bed net, safe from malaria, for three years. A very simple solution to a very big problem.
These nets are not even expensive. One net costs only $10.00. Although $10 for a bed net may not sound like much to us westerners, this cost makes them out of reach for most people at risk of malaria, many of whom survive on less than $1 a day. This price includes the purchase of the net, the spraying of the insecticide, the transportation and the training on how to use the net. All for only $10.00! An instant result and I love it.
If you would like further information here is a link to their website.
Finally I am so committed to this program that we at Red River Furnace and Duct Cleaning will donate $10.00 (one net) from the sale of every furnace cleaning we do.
